So You Want to Blog

So You Want to Blog

I deserted my blog.  Over the last 17 months, I got away for blogging because I had became extremely busy with a corporate client.  I hated that I did not have the time to blog because I think that blogging is an awesome adventure–not to mention that it creates an international presence for us.  We can make our make on the world via our blog!

Today, I declared that I will begin blogging again and thought that I would take myself back to square one and take interested readers on the journey with me.  This time, I am going to focus on making my blog more conversational.  When I was blogging before, I usually would just throw some paragraphs up on the page.  Not the best way to attract loyal readers 🙁  My intention is to grow my blog up in 2016.

So, first things first. Have you already purchased your own domain and have it hosted by a hosting company?  If not, the remainder of this post is for you.

Blog with WordPress

Most bloggers, including me, feel that WordPress is THE blogging platform to build your business with. Statistically speaking, the people who use WordPress earn more money than those who do not.

If you are going to use WordPress, do NOT use the free version found at WordPress.com. The free version is mainly used for online journaling. It was never intended for marketing or business. I know of people who had their blogs shut down by WordPress without warning. All of their hard work…gone. They received an email after the fact that they had violated terms because they had used their blog for business.

You want the hosted version of WordPress. You will own the content this way. You cannot be shut you down unless you are violating some laws. You have freedom to do whatever you want.

An important step in starting an awesome blog is giving it an awesome name. Go to HostGator.com, GoDaddy.com or NameCheap because they are some of the largest domain registrars in the world. You want to deal with a large domain registrar for longevity and support. You will select your own website name ( URL) and then you will purchase a hosted domain for approximately $10 per month. We do have to spend money to run a business.

If you are stuck on what you should name your domain/URL, this article offers help.
