RAS: How Your Brain Attracts Success

RAS: How Your Brain Attracts Success

Have you ever been thinking about buying a certain kind of car and found yourself suddenly noticing that certain make and model everywhere you look?  Why was that?  Well, we have an amazing system in our brain called the “Reticular Activating System” (RAS) and we should learn how to operate it.

What is the RAS

The RAS is near the occipital lobe of your brain and looks like a “network” group of cells. These groups of cells are working 24/7, sorting through all the sensory information that our brain receives. The simple question that the RAS is asking is: Is this something that is of importance to my owner? If the information is unimportant to you, the reticular activation system will not make you aware of it, dropping the info from your field of consciousness.

The RAS finds things you are worried about. For example, if you are worrying about insufficient money, not bring in enough business or your relationships, the RAS will present info about that subject to you.

How the RAS is linked to Success

You may be saying, “So what, Rachel!”

Well, understanding the brain's reticular activation system is important if you want to program your brain for business success. This powerful gift can work for you in your desire to create success. It can also work against you!

The most important function of the RAS is its control of consciousness. It is believed to control the ability to consciously focus attention on something. Your RAS works as a phenomenal filtering system.  In any given moment there are over 2 million bits of sensory information bombarding your sensory data system.  If you were aware of all these bits of action and information, you would go insane. So, you have a RAS to help you filter all this stimulation. Your RAS lets in and processes five to nine bits of information per moment.

So, I have a question for you: What do you think DECIDES what the five to nine bits of information is? It is your thoughts. If you want to attract success, rogram your THOUGHTS to represent the RESULTS you want. Remember, your RAS filters out everything that does not support your most prevalent THOUGHTS.  That is why your THOUGHTS are so important.

Picture this: The two of us are having a conversation about a red Carrera and you began picturing it. What type of car do you think you would begin seeing on your drive home? Yes…a red Carrera! This is your RAS working. Whatever you THINK about, your RAS goes to work to attract AND FILTER OUT EVERYTHING ELSE!

How the RAS Impacts Results

Just imagine the implications of this. What would your RESULTS look like if you began programming your RAS to see and attract that perfect business opportunity, partner, dream home, or the car you have always wanted? Your RAS will filter out EVERYTHING ELSE and you will begin noticing the things, the people, and the opportunities that delight you and bring you the most joy!

achieve-gaolsThe RAS is an essential instrument for your goal achievement. You can intentionally program it by selecting the exact messages you transmit from your conscious mind. You can say affirmations or visualize your goals.

Napoleon Hill said that we can achieve any realistic goal if we keep on thinking of that goal and stop thinking any negative thoughts about it. We can create a precise picture of our goal in our conscious mind. The RAS will then pass this on to our subconscious, which will then assist in achieving the goal by bringing to our attention all the relevant information which previously might have been filtered out.

Put your RAS to work for you. Train yourself and your THINKING.  Plant your desired thoughts and pictures in your RAS and watch what you begin noticing.

That is quite a gift, isn't it?

    Hi Rachel!

I just loved learning about the RAS and how it works in our brain. I understand the concept of the law of attraction, but here, you have explained the scientific way the brain reacts.

This is great because so many poo poo the idea of training our brain. This article proves we can!

It is so true that we need to focus on the positive and the positive will come to us. Whatever we set out to achieve; success in business, love, or anything else. It really works!

I work with many people and tell them it all starts out with our thought process. Now, if they find it difficult to believe and/or act upon it, I can refer them to this article.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Rachel!

I first heard about the reticular activator at a conference many years ago, but not in this context. I love the idea of manifestation and creating results in our life based on visualization and implementation.

This is very similar. As you said – let RAS filter everything else out. Such a great idea!!

  5. Hi Rachel, Very interesting post. I knew there was something that triggered the brain (car example) but didn’t know what it was called. I agree that if you keep positive, do positive and want positive it has a great affect on your life in so many ways.

    Have a wonderful day. Monna

  6. I’ve seen the RAS at work throughout my life, of course. I think the first time I actually took notice of it was when I was expecting my first baby. Suddenly other moms-to-be were everywhere I looked! But didn’t know what the RAS was until a few years ago. Fascinating topic!

I like your reference to Napoleon Hill. Focusing on only the positive aspects of what we want will overtake any negative aspects that have been hanging around in our subconscious. I may want more money, but if I am worrying about the lack of it rather than focusing on having it, then guess which way it is going to go?
