Laser Focus

Laser Focus

Laser focus will bring you uncommon results in your business.

Yes, I mean uncommon revenue.  That's what I like to talk about.

Uncommon results means hitting your money goals every month and growing from there.

Shiny objects, vibrating phones, chiming text messages, pings…it just never ends.  The distractions can be incessant and relentlessly taking your attention away from the project at hand if you allow them to.  The project that will likely bring in the revenue.  The project that needs wrapped up and without your undivided attention can cause your business to grow or cease, needs your attention and yet you cannot seem to put down the cell phone long enough.

There is much to do with an online business and it sits dead in the center of what can feel like Grand Central Station.  It may seem impossible; however, it is not.  You have to unleash some restraint on all that noise.

The truth is that most of it can wait.  If you have the systems in place with your business, you should not feel the need to stop and give your attention to every ping and ding or message that intrudes upon your day, right?

  1. Hi Rachel,

Lazer focus is a must in business. There are constant distractions that we must ignore and/or put aside when we are online marketers. The task at hand is what to focus on. Even when that next shiny object you see you know will enhance your business, one needs to ignore it. Otherwise it can be days of our time to learn about it. I know…I just goofed and purchased something then realized, yes, it is great for business…but who has the time to learn all this stuff.

As for the phone, I shut it off when I’m working. And for those who pop up and Facebook me, I just ignore it. It is like Grand Central Station out there, but we have to be focused on our task at hand in order to complete our work and grow our business.

  2. Hello Rachel, Now this is something I have been getting much better with. I joined a 6 week focus group and was so surprised to learn how much time I wasted each day on silly little things. No wonder I never got anything done LOL

This was a great article, your mention of grand central station made me laugh, we do need to find a way to turn off the noise HUH?

    Thanks for sharing.. Chery :))

  3. Definately requires discipline to laser focus. Sometimes I can really get in the zone and other times I let any little thing distract me, so this is something I still need to work on constantly.

  4. Extremely great points Rachel!

And it is without a doubt so true! And so much of it can and definitely should wait! And practically anything can and will serve as a useful excuse when we’re desperately trying to avoid doing what we know needs to be done!

Oh how sad!LOl! But you nailed it! We’ve got to develop laser focus and discipline! Otherwise the dreaded time drainers get more than their share of victories!

Thanks for putting into perspective and stating what we all know, definitely needs to be done!

  5. You make it sound so simple, Rachel.

The truth is… it is simple. But we so often feel compelled to make it complicated. And of course, it can be complicated too, if we insist.

I love your emphasis on something that is usually lacking in newbies or folks who just haven’t found their groove yet, and that’s “systems”. This doesn’t have to be a system you purchase, although it can be. But it has to be a system you rely on, that is your starting point for each day when you hang the “Open” sign in your window and begin. The system you’ve devised to do business every day will give you a process to follow. That must be first and foremost. All the other things, as you said, can wait.

Work a daily process within a carefully designed system and you’ll make progress toward your dreams. Otherwise you’ll float aimlessly, and will probably get discouraged enough to give up.

    Thanks for this guidance Rachel.
