No list = NO prospects, NO sales, NO growth.
A list is vital.
Even emergency response teams rely on a list. Ay an explosion happens. Emergency personnel and local government go to their list—activating their networks for extra responders, extra blood units, extra volunteers and a triage center setup in the city. I am sure that you have experienced your share of emergencies. An ill child, a flat tire, a stalled vehicle/ Didn’t you go to your personal list or network for help?
Well your business is the same! When you have a message that people need to hear, content that needs to be shared, an offer that you want to spread, you refer to your list. It does not matter what you call it:
- Database growth
- Lead generation
- Putting rears in seats
The fact of the matter is if you do not have anyone listening to your message, seeing your offers, sharing your content, you are out of business.
Throughout January, my major blogging topic will be list building.
Create a Persuasive Opt-In
The first step in building a list is to create a persuasive opt-in form or page (also known as a Squeeze Page).
To do that, you need the following elements:
- A headline statement that arouses the reader’s curiosity. The headline is the most important part of your opt-in. If the headline is not effective at getting the reader to read the rest of your copy, your entire opt-in page might as well not even exist. Many marketers make the mistake of trying to sell their products, services or newsletter subscription in the headline. Don’t do it. Instead, entice your prospects with a persuasive benefit and arouse their curiosity so that they will continue reading. If your headline “sucks” them into the rest of your copy, you will have ample time to use your persuasion tactics to get their subscription.
- Body copy that includes a list of benefits that gives the reader a powerful reason to join your list. Once you have lured your reader into your copy, you begin to sell them on joining your list. Give them strong reasons for joining your list, with a strong emphasis on a bulleted benefit list that catches the eye. Think of your list of benefits like mini-headlines. Every one of them should promise a benefit/result.
- A powerful call to action. This is where you specifically tell your prospects precisely what you want them to do. You might think that you already made this clear to the reader and that they would be eager to join your list. Not so. Research has repeatedly verified that telling readers EXACTLY what to do increases your conversion rate.
Now if you are asking “What List?“, then my newest training is for you! List-building has become my favorite business activity! Ever since I started my list in February 2009, I have focused on that activity and THAT is one of the KEYS to my success both online and offline.
