While taking a hike in the thick fog, we came out into the light pouring through the fog. I stood in awe and took out my camera. It was a moment of amazement for us and an example of how to use everyday moments as metaphors to inspire insight.
This image inspires me as I look towards the New Year and I feel the promise of light coming through the fog. It also makes me take notice of times when I have felt like I was in the fog and could not see my way for the life of me. However, when I went out anyway into that fog, I recall thinking maybe I will walk up and out of this fog and I did. I eventually reached a place where the sun was shining through. That is how I could look at the New Year. It is an opportunity to walk up and out of the fog into clarity, vision and action.
So many people are talking about goals right now. I want to look at it from the eyes of a story. What story did you tell yourself in 2014? Were you the hero, the victim, the fool, or the leader of your story? Were you the author of your story or a character in someone else's version of your story?
Throw out the New Year resolutions. It is amazing how everyone is all so full of advice at this time of the year. Everywhere we look, we are finding advice –some good, some not so good–on how to melt off of any excess weight gathered over the holidays, how to get the best body ever, the best exercise workout for the new year, etc.
Despite this plethora of wisdom, very few people are actually sticking to these new years resolutions. In fact, few people are making lasting changes in their lives despite the desire and sometimes desperate intent to do so. Why?
It all begins in our mind–our thinking, our emotions and our choices. If our mind is not right, then we will not stick with anything, regardless of how great it is. Our mind is the most powerful thing in the Universe. It is with our mind that we choose to stick with that diet and exercise regimen. We were created with a love, power and sound mind. We are powerful enough to decide right and stick with it. This is actually our default mode. We need to train and discipline our minds in order to develop healthy bodies. Are you working on renewing your mind in 2015?
May 2015 be a year of success, joy, prosperity and wonder!
